AstronomyThe scientific study of the universe and the objects in it, including stars, planets, nebulae, and galaxies. Astronomy deals with the position, size, motion, composition, energy, and evolution of celestial objects. Astronomers analyze not only visible light but also radio waves, x-rays, and other ranges of radiation that come from sources outside the Earth's atmosphere.

Create a slide show for the following unit. (Cosmic Landscape page 1-11)
Include an introduction and three or more slides {one slide can be a picture} for each....:
the Earth; the Moon; the Planets; the Sun; The Solar System; Units of measurement AU and LY; give the AU and LY; for the objects in our cosmic landscape; The Milky Way; The Galaxy Cluster and the Universe; Forces and matter; The still unknown universe and a summary.
You should include in your introduction to what systems, in increasing order of size, the Earth belongs to. Remember you are doing a general presentation over the sub topics, use the book as a guide.

Scale Models: Make scale models of the Solar System and the Local Group. Use the information given in table P.1 and/or the appendix tables to determine the sizes and separations of the objects in each. To make the model, you need to establish a scale. For example, the Sun is about 10 billion (1010) times larger than a 5-inch-diameter grapefruit. If you use a grapefruit to represent the Sun, you will need to find other objects to represent each planet that are smaller by the same factor, and then separate them by distances 10 billion times smaller as well. This might require an athletic field. For the Local Group you could use frisbees and coins to represent the galaxies. You might make a video of the project to share with students in a local elementary school or invite them to watch you set up the model.
